STYLE GUIDE: Ways To Rock A Pencil Skirt

The pencil skirt is known for providing women, regardless of your figure, with a flattering look and giving you a long, lean line. It is known to be one of the longest running silhouettes in fashion. Here are some tips on how to rock a pencil skirt....

#1: Pair It With A Peplum Top

Peplum has become a hot commodity to wear for all seasons. One of the freshest ways to rock a pencil skirt is with a peplum top or jacket. Peplum tops make your waist appear slimmer. Pairing them with a pencil skirt will make your body look taller and slender. The overall look will be chic, fashionable and glamorous.

#2: Printed Out

Make your look pop with a printed pencil skirt. Spice it up with an animal print or a colorful plaid or houndstooth print. With a pencil skirt, it does not matter how loud or dull the print is. The skirt is long and lean enough to keep your shape flattering.
#3: Colorblockin'

Be bold and color it up! With a pencil skirt, you are able to experiment with many colors. If you are really feeling brave, add shoes and a bag that are two completely different colors. This will make you look more stylish and stand out.

#4: Leather

Leather pencil skirts are sexy and sleek. You can wear it with just about anything. Try to style it up with a lace top, a sexy blouse or a wool jacket.

SPRING 2014 TREND ALERT: SHINING STAR

For the upcoming Spring season, prepare to add shine and shimmer to your wardrobe. Provide your look with light-catching embellishments, colorful sequins and intricate beading. But remember, DON'T OVERDUE IT! You do not want to walk around looking like a disco ball. Keep the shine and sparkle to a minimal. Try to limit it to one piece per look, such as a skirt or a clutch.

HOW-TO STYLE GUIDE: CREATE YOUR OWN STREET STYLE

As fashion weeks are coming to a halt, many of us are inspired by the trends and styles that we see on the most stylish women in the fashion industry. Although many of us aren't able to afford Valentino's feminine flourished tweed coat or Jean Paul Gaultier's cougar inspired collection, it doesn't mean that we can't adopt those looks and transform them into our own.

Some of the most trendiest and stylish women in the world are the ones we see walking the streets of New York, Los Angeles, London and Milan. You don't need expensive clothes to look fashionable. All you need are a few tips to turn your personal style into STREET STYLE!

STEP #1: Perfect Your Signature

Choose something about your style that not only represents you, but makes you stand out as well. If you examine every designer that is on the runway, you will notice that each has their own signature. Think about Burberry and their signature trench coat or Victoria Beckham and her love for black. Find something about you that will speak to people.

STEP #2: Spice Up The Mix

Don't be predictable...EVER! You want people to anticipate your presence and your wardrobe. You don't want to be too "matchy matchy". Always try to mix your style up with different prints and patterns. Shop around for different pieces to complete your look. Don't wear the same brand and don't buy every piece from one store.

STEP #3: Man Up

Menswear has been a huge inspiration among many women's fashion designers. STOP!! We don't actually mean wearing men's clothing. We mean rocking men's inspired clothing such as a sexy vest or a blazer. Adding a masculine piece to your feminine wardrobe will make your look rogue and eventually make your style stand out

STEP 4: Tis' The Season

Style your look according to the season. Never dress as if the weather doesn't affect you. During the winter, pull out your most elaborate outfits, figure-defining trench coats and chic accessories. Give people inspiration to want to dress like you!

HOW-TO STYLE GUIDE: FEATHERS

The feathered look has been a major trend among celebrities such as Rihanna, Miley Cyrus, Kelly Rowland and Jennifer Lopez.

To avoid embarrassment and potentially looking like a bird, follow these style tips:

DO's/DONT's:
  • Don't wear bright colored feathers. Bold colors will stand out and, eventually, will ruin your complete look.
  • Do wear only soft or dark colors.
  • Don't wear too many feather pieces. Stick to one piece per outfit. You can rock a feathered handbag but nothing more. You want to avoid looking like a hen.
  • Do wear a minimal amount of feathers. Feathers fluff out and that results in making you look wider.
